The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, a key indicator of shipping rates for dry commodity transport, experienced a decline of approximately 3.8%, reaching its lowest point since November 13 at 2,121 points as of Wednesday. This drop countered the slight gain observed the previous day. The capesize index, reflecting the rates for ships that typically carry cargoes of around 150,000 tons, like iron ore and coal, ended its two-day upward trend, falling by 3.7% to nearly a month-long low of 3,694 points. Likewise, the panamax index, which tracks vessels that transport 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, dropped for the 15th consecutive session, plunging 6.2% to its lowest point since June 26 at 1,480 points. In the market for smaller vessels, the supramax index decreased by 27 points, settling at 1,308 points.
